LandSense – a Citizen Observatory and Innovation marketplace for Land Use and Land Cover Monitoring – will build an innovative citizen observatory in the field of Land Use Land Cover (LULC), which collects data both actively (through citizens) and passively (from authoritative, and open access sources) and integrates them to provide valuable quality-assured in-situ data for SMEs, larger businesses, government agencies, NGOs and researchers. There is currently no single marketplace that brings together the growing demand for in-situ data for the monitoring of land use. LandSense will build such a marketplace to attract a vast community of users across numerous disciplines and sectors and thereby boost Europe’s role in the business of in-situ monitoring. LandSense will also provide multiple pathways for citizen empowerment that go beyond simple data collection by providing a range of engagement tools that will allow the voices of citizens to be heard.

The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 689812. It’s coordinated by IIASA and supported by 18 partner institutions from nine different European countries.

LANDSENSE AT A GLANCE

Assess current practices, user requirements and barriers of present Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) technologies and illustrate the potential of citizen observatories.
Engage key stakeholders in the LandSense platform, facilitating the collection, integration, management, and presentation of LULC data.
Deliver innovative and scalable services and implement a strategy detailing the sustainable exploitation of these technologies post-project.
Demonstrate the quality, confidence and added value of citizen-driven observations and citizen engagement for improved LULC monitoring.
Promote the uptake of LandSense technologies, solutions, and products for large-scale LULC monitoring across the EU using the LandSense Services Incubator

OUR ROLE

Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation Activities

Within LandSense, InoSens is leading dissemination, communication & exploitation activities, with focus on Ecosystem Building & Services Incubator, LandSense Exploitation & IP Management.

InoSens is also responsible for demonstration activities within Agricultural Land Use LandSense theme. A series of pilot activities have been initiated in Vojvodina, Serbia to engage the youngest members of the farming community at first, and later other groups as well, in an observatory in which they can actively monitor agricultural land use. A new  FarmLand support service has been developed called “CropSupport” with the help of which targeted individuals can acquire a better understanding of the relationship between land use and crop production, and make real-time operational decisions regarding farm management.
